Brazilian football star Ronaldo in prostitute sex scandal

Brazilian footballer Ronaldo has hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons because he is at the centre of a scandal involving three transvestite prostitutes. After taking his girlfriend home in Rio de Janeiro on Monday night, it has been reported that Ronaldo picked up three prostitutes, not realising they were all actually men.
However, when they arrived at a motel he discovered their genders, and the transvestites reportedly attempted to extort money from the star. One of the prostitutes, Andreia Albertine aka Andre Luiz Ribeiro Albertino apparently is said to have claimed that Ronaldo had threatened to hit him when he discovered that he was not a woman. But Ronaldo is said by Rio police to have "reported that Andreia had taken his car documents and demanded $30,000." The prostitute Andreia also claimed that Ronaldo had taken drugs, and had threatened to hurt all of three. Ronaldo, however, denied in a statement that he had ever used drugs, and said he was the victim of extortion. Ronaldo was back in Brazil recovering from knee surgery and he apparently told the police it was causing him some psychological problems.

London Games offered £225m loan

The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) said it has yet to decide if it will accept the public sector European Investment Bank's offer.
The government had hoped the private sector would raise the £1bn needed for the village's construction.
The ODA has said the recession has made raising private finance difficult.
In September it said it had secured only half of the money needed for the athletes' village and media centre in Stratford, east London.
We have said that the European Investment Bank could be a funding source for the affordable housing
ODA spokesman
Athletes will stay in the 3,000-home Olympic Village - the biggest component of the 500-acre Olympic Park - which is being built by Australian firm Lend Lease.
A spokesman for the ODA said: "As we have made clear in recent months, discussions on potential funding of the Olympic Village involve both affordable housing and private sector development.
"We have said that the European Investment Bank could be a funding source for the affordable housing.
"Alongside this, discussions are continuing with Lend Lease over the wider Olympic Village development.
"We expect talks to have concluded this summer."
'Harsh terms'
In September ODA chairman John Armitt said it had originally expected to already have "quite big sums of private sector funding" for the village and media centre.
"The consequence of what is happening in the markets means that the availability of funding is more difficult," he said.
"That is not to say that it is not available but, if it is available, it is available on harsh terms."
After the Games the village will become part of the overall Stratford City regeneration scheme, which will include a shopping centre and up to 3,300 new homes.
The original budget for the 2012 Olympics was £3.4bn but this was increased to £9.3bn last year.

Cullen comes second in Dublin run

Ireland's Mary Cullen finished second behind Ana Dulce Felix of Portugal in the Great Ireland Run on Sunday.
Sligo runner Cullen, in her first 10k on the road, put in a good effort at Phoenix Park to see off Fernanda Ribeiro who finished third.
Rui Pedro Silva made it a Portuguese double by winning the men's race ahead of former world marathon record holder Paul Tergat of Kenya.
Irish hope Martin Fagan was always in contention and finished third.
Silva's winning time was 28 minutes, 45 seconds.
Fagan, based in the Unites States and rapidly emerging as a world class athlete, decided to run despite a niggling injury.
"I felt flat and did not feel good," said the man who smashed the Irish half marathon record a few weeks ago.
"It was horrible but I would not have missed the race for the world as I wanted to run on home soil.
"This was my first international competition here and I ran despite suffering from what might be a groin injury - but which I hope is a hernia which I have had before.
"I'll have an MRI and keep my fingers crossed when I see what the results are.
"I am disappointed as I did want to win and the amount of support I received from the spectators was amazing
